Meet Our Principals
Sherri Verble, Principal
Since 2002, Mrs. Sherri Verble has served the Deer Creek School District as an educator and administrator, working with students in grades PreK through seventh. She is a graduate of Northwestern Oklahoma State University and received her masters degree in School Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Together, Mrs. Verble and her husband have six children, three of whom are Deer Creek graduates. They like to spend their free time traveling, going to the beach and riding their Razor. Mrs. Verble lives in Deer Creek and considers herself blessed to be a part of the wonderful Deer Creek community.
Makenzie Gurss, Assistant Principal
Dr. Makenzie Gurss is a career educator who joined the DCIS team at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
Prior to becoming a principal, she taught fifth grade, was a reading specialist and an instructional coach. Dr. Gurss holds degrees from Emporia State University, University of Central Missouri, Baker University and Kansas State University.
When asked why she chose a career in education, she said, "It was never a question for me. I enjoy working with students and for me, that meant working in education." Outside of school, she enjoys spending time doing creative activities with her daughter and watching sports with her son.
